For the first month since June 2013, we will step into September without the addition of free games to play from Games with Gold. Microsoft will be retiring Xbox Live Gold next month, and by association, Games with Gold, to instead offer the new Xbox Game Pass Core tier. We recently asked if you prefer Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Core, and from the 3,522 responses we received, 58.6% of you said you prefer Xbox Live Gold, so September could be a disappointing month for many players.

The final Games with Gold games on Xbox

For the final month of Games with Gold offerings, we can claim 3D action-platformer Blue Fire and arcade racing game Inertial Drift. Blue Fire takes us on an "extraordinary journey through the desolated kingdom of Penumbra" to "discover the hidden secrets of this long-forgotten land." While we'll be exploring temples and meeting survivors, we'll also come across "unique areas filled with diverse enemies, sharp 3D platforming challenges, quests, collectibles, and more."

As for Inertial Drift, we're told to "forget everything you know about drifting," as it's a twin-stick drifting game set in a "90s retro-future." Inertial Drift offers 16 different cars, 20 tracks, a single-player story mode, and local and online multiplayer races — it sounds like it could be a fun neon-lit way to pass some time!

Tom has been playing video games since he was old enough to hold a controller, experimenting with a number of systems until he eventually fell in love with Xbox. With a passion for the platform, he decided to make a career out of it, and now happily spends his days writing about that which he loves. If he’s not hunting for Xbox achievements, you’ll likely find him somewhere in The Elder Scrolls Online or fighting for survival in Battlefield.
