Elder Scrolls 6 won't launch on Xbox until 2028 at the earliest

Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 five years ago in 2018, and according to Xbox chief Phil Spencer, the RPG is still "five-plus years away."

Phil Spencer spoke more about a potential release window for The Elder Scrolls VI and what platforms Bethesda's next fantasy RPG epic could launch on on day two of hearings where the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking an injunction to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

"I think we’ve been a little unclear on what platforms it will launch on, given how far out the game is," said Spencer, as reported by IGN. "It’s difficult for us right now to nail down exactly what platforms that game will launch on.

"As I said with Elder Scrolls 6, it’s so far out it’s hard to understand what the platforms will even be at this point. It’s the same team that’s finishing Starfield, which comes out this September.

"So we’re talking about it being likely five-plus years away."

The Elder Scrolls 6 potential 2028 release window shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, considering the brief updates Bethesda has given on the game since its announcement in 2018. Back in 2020, Bethesda's Pete Hines said we shouldn't expect details on the RPG until after Starfield. A year later, Todd Howard revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in the design phase. With all that being said, it sounds like The Elder Scrolls 6 will launch on the next generation of Xbox consoles, which Microsoft expects will arrive in 2028.
