How to "Fix" Your Gamerscore Using TrueAchievements

By Dave Horobin,
Without any doubt, the most common question we receive on our various social media accounts comes from panic-stricken achievement hunters who are looking for a way to find an "odd" value achievement so that they can "fix" their Gamerscore again. Unsurprisingly, the answer is yes, yes we do, but before we get into how to "fix" it, let's first understand the issue of "broken" and "odd" Gamerscore.

How to fix your Gamerscore

What is Odd Gamerscore

If someone asked you to find them an odd value achievement, you'd be forgiven for thinking that there are thousands of 5, 15 and 25 Gamerscore value achievements out there and that it's really not that hard to find one. Unfortunately, that's not actually what they mean.

As Big Shaq eloquently put it, we must first begin with some quick maths to explain what it is they are actually wanting.

At school, you will no doubt have been taught what odd and even numbers are at a very young age. Confusingly, in the world of achievements, that basic rule changes and people mean something completely different when they refer to odd or even Gamerscore. Even numbers are no longer an integer that is evenly divisible by two, and odd numbers are no longer an integer that is not a multiple of two. Instead, even means any Gamerscore value that is divisible by five, and everything else is odd.
  • Even Gamerscore ends in 0 or 5
  • Odd Gamerscore ends in 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9

How Does Gamerscore Break?

With the above rule of odd and even Gamerscore in mind, the vast majority of games stick to the unwritten law of awarding what achievement hunters call even value Gamerscore for each achievement unlock, which is how it should be. Occasionally, however, some developers (either because they haven't been educated on the unwritten law or because they just like to watch the world burn) will award an achievement that offers an odd value Gamerscore. When a gamer unlocks one of these odd Gamerscore value achievements, their Gamerscore is instantly broken.

Some gamers (the uncouth) simply won't care and will carry on regardless after breaking their Gamerscore, others will even do it deliberately to reach a specific Gamerscore milestone such as 111,111. For many, however, they see the odd ending Gamerscore as unsightly and want to fix it as soon as possible before they lose too much sleep.

The new page shows every achievement on TA. At the top of the page, you have access to a range of filters that you can use to find specific achievements.

To find an achievement with the value for which you are looking, select the value from the Gamerscore dropdown and wait for the page to update. Once updated you will see a list of every achievement on TA with that value. Of course, you can apply additional filters to narrow the list down further if required.

To filter the list to only display the available achievements in your games, place a tick in the next to My Games Only. The page will update and a new dropdown menu will appear, giving you the option to choose between (All), Achievements I've Won and Achievements I've Not Won.
