Blizzard announces three-part Overwatch mini-series starting this week

By Heidi Nicholas,

Blizzard has announced Genesis as an upcoming Overwatch mini-series, with the first part of the series set to arrive later this week.

An Overwatch mini-series is set to begin later this week, with Part One of Genesis, titled Dawn, scheduled for July 6 at 9am PT / 5pm BST. Check out the trailer below.

Overwatch mini-series Genesis kicks off on July 6

"It was a technological golden age. Until it wasn’t," Blizzard says. "Introducing Genesis, an Overwatch mini-series." Aside from that very brief description and the trailer above, Blizzard isn't giving too much away about what to expect, except that Part One: Dawn will have a runtime of just over five minutes. Part Two: Innocence arrives on July 13 with a runtime of around six and a half minutes, followed the next week by Part Three: Rebirth, which has a runtime of almost seven minutes.

We've seen Overwatch players praise the game's animation team and ask for more animated content and Overwatch lore for quite a while, so it'll be interesting to see the reaction to the Genesis mini-series.

August will then bring Overwatch 2's "biggest update ever" with Invasion, which will feature new story missions, a new season, a new PvP mode, a new hero, and more.
