Popular Xbox games — January 9th, 2023

By Heidi Nicholas,

Our latest Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games sees High On Life fall out of the top five, while Let's Build a Zoo makes its first appearance in the top 30.

The top five of our latest Gameplay Chart has refused to budge this week — all except Overwatch 2, which has jumped up one spot to fifth. High On Life — which broke multiple Game Pass records — was at fifth last week, but has dropped several places to eighth. Single-player games, while they often get a huge boost from joining Game Pass, tend to have much shorter shelf lives on the service in general. Rainbow Six Siege, meanwhile, has just managed to crawl back into the top ten, knocking Forza Horizon 5 down to 11th. Just below we see Stranded Deep making its first appearance in the top 40 at 13th after joining Game Pass and PC Game Pass last week. Then we have a slew of games falling down the chart — interrupted by the occasional title which, like Elden Ring at 17th, has managed to hang onto its place from last week — before we get to Ark: Survival Evolved, which has jumped up four places to 23rd. It's not such good news for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which has dropped three places to 25th. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has also seen a fall, dropping four spots to 27th. Let's Build a Zoo, meanwhile, has broken into the top 40 for the first time at 30th, thanks to its inclusion with the latest Xbox Game Pass Quests. The chart continues with a few titles rising, falling, and switching places, until we get to Cyberpunk 2077, which holds firm at 38th, and our last two reappearances: For Honor at 39th and Madden NFL 22 at 40th. This week's disappearances are Gang Beasts, Life is Strange: True Colors, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered, and Among Us.

Looking ahead, we have a number of games coming to Game Pass before the end of January (along with any other Game Pass announcements Microsoft has up its sleeve) as well as some heavy-hitters like Starfield and Redfall on the way later in the year — what do you think will make it into the top ten next? Let us know what you think in the comments!
