Popular Xbox games — July 30, 2023

Our latest Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games sees Exoprimal fall out of the top ten, while Elden Ring almost falls out of the top 40.

Modern Warfare II is still in the top spot of this week's Gameplay Chart, with Fortnite hopping back up to second, GTA V dropping to third, and Minecraft and FIFA 23 staying put at fourth and fifth. Diablo IV has dropped another few places from sixth to eighth, although its latest patch fixes a big Battle Pass issue following player complaints, so perhaps it'll do better in next week's chart. The next big change is Exoprimal, which has dropped seven spots from eighth to 15th. It's been over two weeks since it launched into Xbox Game Pass, so perhaps some players are moving on, but with a new PvE mode and in-game rewards, perhaps Exoprimal too will fare better next week. Further down, Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and Halo MCC have both seen a bit of a drop, but just below Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition re-joins the top 40 at 23rd after being included in the last Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests. Dead by Daylight is up three spots to 25th — it tends to bob about in the chart, but the upcoming Dead by Daylight: Alien content might help it climb still higher.

Black Ops has dropped eight spaces to 30th — a number of Xbox 360 Call of Duty games saw a huge spike in players after a server fix, but this seems to be tailing off now. Remnant 2 makes its debut appearance in the chart at 33rd after launching last week, and you can check out Tom's Remnant 2 first impressions for why you shouldn't "let this gorgeous shooter slip by." Further down, Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem makes its own first appearance in the top 40 at 37th after joining Xbox Game Pass. Elden Ring is just holding on in the top 40 at 39th, while Wolfenstein: The Old Blood makes its first appearance at 40th after it too was in those last Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests.

Looking ahead, we have five games joining Xbox Game Pass soon, as well as big launches like Stray and Madden NFL 24. What do you expect to see in the top ten next?
