Popular Xbox games — July 9, 2023

By Heidi Nicholas,

Our latest Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games sees GTA V retake the top spot, dethroning Fortnite, while Elden Ring re-joins the top 40.

GTA V moves from fourth to first after its "surprise return" to Xbox Game Pass, while Fortnite has been knocked to second, Modern Warfare 2 to third, and Minecraft to fourth, with only FIFA 23 hanging on at fifth. It's rare to see the top five shift too much, so it'll be interesting to see how long GTA V remains in first place. After a slew of titles shifting up or down a spot or two, the next big change is Sea of Thieves, which has dropped seven places to 22nd, perhaps as a result of the end of its latest adventure and the end of the Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quest it was involved in. Its free Monkey Island crossover DLC is on the way, however, so we might see it sail higher again. Then we see Arcade Paradise making its debut appearance at 25 after joining Xbox Game Pass. Ghostwire: Tokyo, meanwhile, is included in the latest Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests, which likely explains its reappearance in the chart at 26th. Peggle 2 is likewise included, and we see it re-join the chart at 28th. Gang Beasts, which last week just managed to re-join the chart at 40th, has moved up this week to 36th. Taking its place at 40th is Elden Ring.

The games coming to Game Pass this month include the much-hyped Exoprimal, with big launches like F1 Manager 2023 later in the month. What do you think could make it into the top ten next?
