Popular Xbox games — May 28, 2023

By Heidi Nicholas,

Our latest Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games sees Planet of Lana make its debut appearance following its Game Pass launch, while Redfall falls indeed.

The top five of our Gameplay Chart again refuses to budge, although just below, Destiny 2 has leaped up from 11th to 6th, presumably due to its new Season of the Deep content. Apex Legends has been knocked out of sixth and fallen an extra spot to eighth, while Forza Horizon 5 has just dropped out of the top ten, landing at 11th this week. This latest Xbox Gameplay Chart also sees Star Wars Jedi: Survivor fall two places to 16th, perhaps as more players begin to finish up with the game, while Hogwarts Legacy has dropped four places to 24th. Hogwarts Legacy's Xbox One version arrived on May 5, so perhaps we're seeing another case of a game falling through the chart as its latest players finish up with it.

Just below, Spelunky 2 has re-joined the chart at 26th after being included in the latest Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests, with Farming Simulator 22 most likely re-joining the chart at 28th for the same reason. Redfall, meanwhile, is seeing no such luck — it has fallen 12 places this week to 31st. Its bumpy launch was followed by an apology from Xbox boss Phil Spencer himself, so it's not too surprising to see it continue to struggle. Further down the chart, we see two debut appearances with Railway Empire 2 at 35th and Planet of Lana at 36th, with both having joined Game Pass last week. Planet of Lana received rave reviews, and we found plenty to like in our Planet of Lana first impressions. Rounding up our top 40, we have Call of Duty: Black Ops II re-joining the chart at 38th while Dead Island 2 falls all the way from 27th to 39th, with Gang Beasts reappearing at 40th.

Looking ahead, we have games coming to Game Pass such as Chicory: A Colorful Tale, which joins the service today, as well as big launches like Street Fighter 6 — which is currently one of the best-reviewed Xbox games of 2023 so far — and Diablo IV. What do you think will make it into the chart next? Let us know in the comments!
