Popular Xbox games — November 21st, 2022

Our latest Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games sees Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II holding the top spot with ease, while recent Xbox Game Pass addition Pentiment breaks into the top 25.

Modern Warfare II is still in first place — and it looks like Fortnite isn't even close to retaking it, as this week's data shows almost three times as many players on Modern Warfare II than Epic's battle royale game. The top five remains the same as last week, but Modern Warfare has jumped from eighth to sixth, while Halo Infinite has fallen from sixth to eighth, and Rocket League is up from 12th to ninth, with Apex Legends at tenth. There's not too much movement until we get to 17th, where Vampire Survivors has leapt up five places from 22nd — the game recently joined Xbox Game Pass, and its latest update fixed the bugged Omni achievement, so if you'd been holding off for a fix, now's a great time to jump back in. Deep Rock Galactic, meanwhile, has re-joined the chart at 19th — it's included in the latest Xbox Game Pass Quests and Season 3 has just kicked off, which might explain the sudden resurgence. The next reappearance on this week's chart is The Ascent, which was also included in the latest Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests along with Deep Rock Galactic. Just below that is this week's only debut appearance, with Pentiment at 25th. Pentiment launched into Xbox Game Pass just last week — if you haven't tried it yet, check out Luke's Pentiment review to see why he thought it was an "artistic triumph." What's more, since Pentiment's achievement list is "impossible" to complete in one playthrough, perhaps we could expect to see Pentiment stay on the chart for a while longer as players go back to complete it.

Cyperpunk 2077 meanwhile continues its fall, having dropped three places this week to 28th. Sea of Thieves has hopped up one space to 29th — Season 8 begins tomorrow and adds "on-demand PvP combat", so perhaps we'll see Sea of Thieves sail still higher as more players flood back. There's more jostling and reshuffling down the rest of the chart until we get to 36th, where MultiVersus sits as another reappearance following the start of Season 2. Persona 5 Royal has fallen ten spots to 37th, presumably as Xbox Game Pass players move onto something else, but Smite sits just below at 38th as this week's last reappearance, with Assassin's Creed Odyssey still hanging on at 40th.
