Rumbleverse shutting down in late February, refunds offered on all purchases

By Sean Carey,

Epic Games' free-to-play battle royale brawler Rumbleverse is shutting down at the end of February, with the final battle pass made free for all players and refunds set to be offered for all in-game purchases. [updated]

Update: It's official: Rumbleverse will be shutting down on February 28th. A post on the official site confirms the rumoured shutdown: "Iron Galaxy Studios and Epic Games are very sorry to share that Season Two will be the last for Rumbleverse," it reads. "This project has been a labor of love to create a new experience in a popular and highly competitive genre for games. If you’ve been a part of that journey, we thank you – whether you jumped into the first playtest after our reveal, or just shot yourself out of the cannon for the first time."

It goes on to say that the current battle pass will be made free for all players in the game's final month with a double XP boost to help unlock things faster (with a few extra goodies thrown in as well), and states that any purchases made in the game or for in-game items on other storefronts will be eligible for refunds, with more details set to follow on that front. The rumoured delisting, however, doesn't appear to have happened — Rumbleverse is still on the Xbox store at the time of updating this article, so if you want to grab this completion while the game is still live, you should still be able to get involved.

"It is our sincerest hope that this news does not mark the end of Rumbleverse. You may not yet have seen the Rumble in its final form. If we can welcome people back onto the deck of the battle barge again, we hope you’ll be there, laced up and ready to take your rightful place in the cannon," reads an open letter from developer Iron Galaxy to players. "Iron Galaxy will keep making games. It’s our passion and our purpose. Our people are filled with skills and inspirations to keep the world playing. Thank you for playing. This is not the last time you’ll hear from us. This is not the last time we’ll invite you to play."

Original story: According to known leaker and insider Tom Henderson, Rumbleverse, which only launched five months ago, will shut down at the end of February. As Rumbleverse is an online-only game, this would discontinue all 12 Rumbleverse achievements. Henderson also claims that the game will be delisted from digital storefronts today.

Rumbleverse rumoured to shut down in February

"Epic Games' Rumbleverse will be shutting down at the end of February," Henderson said on Twitter. When asked for more information on the shutdown, Henderson said that he thinks delistings will begin today and that an announcement is probably coming soon.

Nothing official on Rumbleverse's shutdown and delisting has been announced. Rumbleverse was recently rated in Taiwan for Nintendo Switch, and the game did receive a fairly significant update two weeks ago, so it's worth taking this rumour with a heavy pinch of salt until we receive official word from Epic. Still, it might be worth at least claiming Rumbleverse from the Xbox store now, just in case it is suddenly delisted.
