Pirates on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Game Pass will need to wait a little longer to play the new content coming in Sea of Thieves' next Season, as Season Ten has been delayed to October 19.

Rare delays Sea of Thieves Season Ten on Xbox and PC

"It’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly, and we share your disappointment that it’s something we’ve needed to do. However, after careful consideration, we firmly believe that it’s the best thing to do for the quality of the release, the sustainability of our development process and the wellbeing of our team," Rare says. "Those of you who caught the recent episode of our podcast will have heard us discussing the challenges of implementing new systems into a game like Sea of Thieves. These types of foundational releases are challenging to make, as we have to ensure they interact with all the existing systems in the game.

"One such challenge has been the Season Ten headline feature, which we’ve already talked about as something that we’ve found tougher than anticipated to pull together – especially to the quality bar we’re striving to meet."

In an update on the Sea of Thieves website, the team acknowledges the frustration that some players will feel now that Season Nine will continue for longer, especially those that have already hit Renown level 100. Rare says there is still plenty of new activities on the way between August and September, however, so it'll hopefully keep you entertained while you wait for Season Ten.

Between August 4 and August 7, you'll have a chance to play in a Gold & Glory event, which will be followed by Legends Week sometime after. September will see Rare host a special Community Weekend "with an exciting new flavor" –— we're not sure what that means, but we want to get involved, nonetheless!

Looking at the positive side of the delay, Season Ten's pushback has meant that Rare can take Season Eleven's headline feature and add it to the content coming in Season Ten, although it won't arrive until the end of October or the beginning of November.

As for other Sea of Thieves news, the free Monkey Island crossover DLC is now available to all players, offering up another handful of achievements.
