TA Playlist game for July 2023 announced

By The TA Playlist Team,

June is drawing to a close, so it's time to once again bid farewell to Gotham City as we finish up our TA Playlist game of the month, Batman: The Telltale Series, and prepare for the July 2023 feature.

With all the big Xbox news that's been coming out in the last few weeks, including lots of games that will be arriving on Xbox Game Pass soon, we decided it was a great time to take a look back at some of the best games to enter the service in the past year. Going by TA user ratings, we picked four of the highest-rated games on the service, including Hi-Fi RUSH, Return to Monkey Island, and Pentiment, but the winner and your July 2023 TA Playlist game of the month is… High On Life!

High On Life Achievements

Developed and published by Squanch Games, High on Life was released in December of last year and immediately became one of the biggest day-one Xbox Game Pass launches of 2022. The game had a featured spot in the Xbox Showcase announcements earlier in June, as a new trailer was shown for the upcoming DLC expansion, "High on Knife," which is expected to release sometime this fall.

Fresh out of high school with no job and no ambition, you've really got nothing going for you until an alien cartel that wants to get high off humanity invades Earth. Now, you and a team of charismatic talking guns must answer the hero's call and become the deadliest intergalactic bounty hunter the cosmos has ever seen. Travel to various biomes and locations across the cosmos, go up against the nefarious Garmantuous and his gang of goons, collect loot, meet unique characters, and more in this comedy adventure.

Despite a few glitched achievements at launch and a serious controversy surrounding studio founder Justin Roiland (all of which will most certainly be topics for discussion in this month's forums!), High on Life still carries an impressive TA user rating of 4.07, with around 5,300 (2%) of the almost 247,000 tracked gamers who've started the game earning all 32 achievements. The base game is estimated to take around 20-25 hours for the full completion, although we don't yet know how much time will be added with the High on Knife DLC when it arrives. We don't have a walkthrough on site yet, but there is a handy guide to High on Life missables that should help you find all the items and journal entries you'll need for the full completion.

Here's the full breakdown of the votes. High on Life jumped out to the lead right from the start, and while Hi-Fi Rush was nipping at its heels for the duration of the poll, it never quite managed to close the gap and take the lead.

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
