Vote now for June 2023's TA Playlist game

By The TA Playlist Team,

Welcome, survivors of New Eden. We hope you're enjoying the second chance choice of the month ReCore, but now it's time to take a quick break and vote for your favorite nominee for the June 2023 Playlist.

For June, we're feeling like channeling our inner Sherlock Holmes and have decided to field four games in which you play a master detective of some sort. While there are many games to choose from, we've tried to narrow it down to four very distinctive games that feature some kind of detective work. You may notice that the "World's Greatest Detective," or at least his ever-popular Arkham game series, is missing from this list. This is because two games from that series have previously won the TA Playlist, and to feature Arkham Knight in this lineup would be slightly unfair in our eyes. Instead, the Caped Crusader may be making an alternative appearance.
On to our selections for June!

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One Achievements

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is the first option for this month, which is developed and published by Frogwares and originally released back in November 2021.

In Chapter One, you play the eponymous Sherlock Holmes, aged 21 and at the beginning of his career as a consulting detective. Following the death of his mother, Violet, the young detective returns to his childhood home on the island of Cordona. There, Holmes uncovers a sinister conspiracy lurking beneath the surface of a seemingly idyllic town where corruption and crime are rampant, and the locals have a twisted sense of justice and morality. Your decisions here have consequences, and it's time to confront your past.

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One currently sits at a community rating of 4.14/5.00 on TA. Just under 3300 people have played, with 421 (13%) earning all 39 achievements. It's estimated to take 25-30 hours to complete.

Batman: The Telltale Series

The next nominee is Batman: The Telltale Series. Developed by Telltale Game and released back in August 2016, this is one of the Telltale games that disappeared along with Telltales' collapse in 2018 before being saved and rereleased by LCG Entertainment

In it, you play the world's greatest detective, Batman, and his alter ego of Bruce Wayne. You get to see the development of some of the most known characters from Batman's Rogue Gallery, along with Bats himself, and you get to enter the fractured psyche of the Caped Crusader himself and discover the powerful and far-reaching consequences of your choices as the Dark Knight. Your actions and your choices will determine the fate of the Batman.

Batman: The Telltale Series has a decent rating of 3.93 out of 5.00 here on TA. With over 141,000 tracked TA users having started the game, it is the most played game nominated this month by a long shot, with around 74,000 (just over 53%) having unlocked all 30 achievements, split over the five episodes. None of the achievements can be missed, with them coming at the end of each chapter and episode in classic Telltale fashion, and each episode is set to take you 1-2 hours to complete, for a total of 5-10 hours.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut Achievements

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is our third detective nomination for the month. This RPG title was developed and published by ZA/UM and was released on Xbox in October 2021.

Disco Elysium takes place in the seaside district of a fictional city still recovering from a siege that occurred decades prior to the game's start. You take the role of an amnesiac detective who has been tasked with solving a murder mystery. During the investigation, he comes to recall events about his past as well as current forces trying to affect the city.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut holds a huge 4.73/5.00 community rating on TA. Under 5000 tracked gamers have played it, and around 50 (1%) have unlocked the 45 achievements required for full completion, which is estimated to take 85-110, although that can be cut down a bit using the TA walkthrough.

Return of the Obra Dinn

Return of the Obra Dinn Achievements

Last but definitely not least, we have Return of the Obra Dinn. Developed and published by a single man, Lucas Pope, Obra Dinn was originally released in October 2019.

The Obra Dinn, insured by the East India Company, went missing in 1803 as it was to sail around the Cape of Good Hope. It has since washed up in port with all sixty passengers and crew dead or missing. You are tasked with determining the fate of all souls on board, including their names, where and how they met their fate, who their killer was, and their locations, should they be alive.

Return of the Obra Dinn currently holds an impressive score of 4.47 out of 5.00. Almost 2,600 of you have started it, with around 38% (986 to be exact) of those earning the completion. The base game's 16 achievements should take an estimated 8-10 hours to complete. If giant logic puzzles aren't your jam, you'll find that the TA walkthrough can help you along in the most efficient way possible.

Are there any games that you've not seen nominated that you think the community should play? The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
