TA Playlist game for June 2023 announced

By The TA Playlist Team,

Hello, Playlist crew! May is nearly over, so it’s time to end our exploration of Far Eden in ReCore, and head back to Earth for June’s TA Playlist game of the month.

For June, we wanted to get your grey matter going, searching for clues and solving mysteries with four games featuring professional detectives as the main protagonists. While detective stories are by nature going to bear some similarities to each other, we tried to pick four extremely varied options, all with different styles and gameplay mechanics. Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, and Return of the Obra Dinn are all excellent mysteries that are well worth your time, but the winner and June TA Playlist game of the month will feature the World’s Greatest Detective, aka the Caped Crusader himself, in Batman: The Telltale Series.

Batman 4

As the title suggests, Batman: The Telltale Series was developed by Telltale Games and published by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in 2016. After Telltale Games shut down in 2018, Athlon Games acquired the rights to the game and its sequel, with developer LCG Entertainment releasing an updated “Shadows Edition” of both games in 2019.

TA Playlist previously featured two Batman games, Batman: Arkham Asylum in April 2019 and Batman: Arkham City in June 2019, but where those games focused more on the Dark Knight’s technological gadgets and combat skills, Batman: The Telltale Series has you spending equal amounts of time playing as Bruce Wayne, delving deep into the psychological conflict between the billionaire and his vigilante alter ego. The decisions you make as Batman could have serious consequences for Bruce, so consider your choices carefully as you unravel a mysterious plot involving Catwoman, Penguin, and the enigmatic Children of Arkham.

Batman: The Telltale Series currently holds a 3.93/5.00 community rating on TA. Over 141,000 tracked gamers have played the Xbox One version of the game, with another 9,000 playing the Xbox 360 version and 2,600 more tracked games playing the Windows variant. More than 52% (just over 74,000 gamers) have completed the Xbox One version (with around 35% completion for the other two versions), for a total of 30 achievements across five episodes. As usual for Telltale games, all the achievements are story related, awarded for completing each chapter, but we do have a walkthrough on site that can help you work your way through if you need a nudge in the right direction.

Here’s the full breakdown of the votes. Comments on the poll were pretty evenly mixed between the four nominees, but among the voters, the enduring popularity of the Dark Knight proved insurmountable for the other three contenders. Batman jumped out to an early lead which only grew as the month wore on, taking just over a third of the total vote.

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
