Site Feature: Target system improvements and April's targets revealed

By Rich Stone,
Way back at the start of Community Month when I still had my sanity, we launched Targets — a set of personal challenges for you to try to complete each month in order to earn some medals for your homepage.

It's fair to say the feature has proved very popular — with well over 6,000 of you taking part in at least one of the first month's targets.

We also received a fair amount of feedback on the Target system, so today we've added some improvements, and we've also got the list of April's Targets for you to sign up for.

Target system improvements

We've added a count of the number of medals that have been earned for each Target on the main target page. This then links through to a list of the gamers that have earned that particular medal. For the Gold medal list, this is effectively a Target leaderboard as we continue to track your scores after you've achieved the Gold.

We've also listened to your feedback, and you can now choose to move your Active Targets panel on your profile page over to the right via a new site setting:

Announcing April's Targets

We are now announcing your Targets for April.

Please note: You can join these Targets now, but you won't start earning towards them until the month actually begins in your region.

April Target 1 — Rare Achievements Target

Target 1 is for unlocking Rare achievements.

You can see rare achievements from the diamond indicator on achievement list pages (for example on this achievement), or search for them in the My Achievements pages using the Achievement Type = Rare filter.

Please note — these are Rare Achievements by Xbox's definition of them, and they are checked for being "rare" when they are scanned into the site. That means if they stop being rare after you've unlocked them, they will still count.

The Target tiers are:
  • Bronze — 10 Rare achievements unlocked
  • Silver — 20 Rare achievements unlocked
  • Gold — 30 Rare achievements unlocked

April Target 2 — Sports Gamerscore Target

Target 2 is for Gamerscore earned in Sports games.

Here is a full list of Xbox Sports games that count towards this target.

The Target tiers are:
  • Bronze — 200 Gamerscore in Sports games
  • Silver — 400 Gamerscore in Sports games
  • Gold — 600 Gamerscore in Sports games

April Target 3 — Collectable Achievements Target

Target 3 is for unlocking Collectable achievements.

You can identify collectable achievements from the magnifying glass flag icon on achievement list pages, or search for them in the My Achievements pages using the Achievement Type = Collectable filter.

There is also a full list of Collectable Achievements here.

The Target tiers are:
  • Bronze — 5 Collectable achievements unlocked
  • Silver — 10 Collectable achievements unlocked
  • Gold — 15 Collectable achievements unlocked
Good luck to everyone taking part, let's do this!

Yo! Rich here - I was the one that created TrueAchievements back in 2008 as I felt the Xbox Gamerscore system could be improved. The site has evolved massively since then and it's now the biggest and best Xbox community on the planet! Racing games and open world shooters are my thing, but I'll give most genres a go. Except RPGs - those things are evil.
