Ubisoft responds to server outages, promises "advance notice" ahead of closures

By Luke Albigés,
Ubisoft has given us a statement after we approached the studio for comment earlier in the week, in which it explains that "services have been restored" for multiple games after what was apparently "short maintenance," rather than the unannounced mass server closure it looked to be.

“Some of our games (Anno 2070, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Silent Hunter 5, and Splinter Cell Blacklist) were taken offline for a short maintenance and services have been restored," reads the statement provided to us by Ubisoft. "We will provide advance notice before shutting down any online services for our games and have updated our support article to reflect this.”

While not explicitly mentioned in the statement, Assassin's Creed Revelations looks to be in the clear as well — Ubisoft has once again updated its online status page, with just the OnLive version of Revelations now noted as being closed. Several other titles in which players had been reporting connection woes, such as Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Far Cry 2, and Watch Dogs, also get neither a namecheck nor appear on the updated list, so here's hoping they too are safe, and that Ubisoft stays true to its word with advance warning ahead of any actual server closures.

Glad to see those Assassin's Creed completions back on the table? Let us know, and be sure to drop a comment if you spot any more discrepancies between Ubi's list and server status for specific games!
