Bringing a simple 3rd person formula to the Live Service model, Capcom have invested heavily in a stylised aesthetic but it sadly seems to lack the necessary staying power.
The opening cutscene and tutorial are incredibly thorough and start you with a sense of grandeur, unfortunately this quickly went away for me after realising there was no campaign only option. You can choose between PVP and PVE but the only difference is in PVP you will get the opportunity to briefly fight the enemy team instead of just being faster than their ghosts. The 5v5 format works well and the mission objectives are clear but having to queue up for multiplayer games with no alternative can be off-putting.
Combat itself is engaging and the enemy/suit variety offer up enough content to keep you enjoying the games. That said the most enjoyable aspect is the "story" missions, in which all 10 players will aim to beat a PVE story driven section. These detours are so much fun and offer great cutscenes as well as little lore titbits. However, as previously mentioned these missions are not selectable and will only occur randomly when you or another member of the lobby has unlocked enough "data", this massively detracts from the excitement. Add to this the fairly limited customisation options at the moment (I currently have every non battlepass item and 200k spar BikCoin) and you start to get a very repetitive gameplay loop.
The game has 39 achievements which offer a decent bit of variety and some that encourage you to try things you otherwise wouldn't think to do. The last 2 or 3 achievements are just a MASSIVE unfun grind, currently taking around 60-80 hours of just killing the same dinosaurs repeatedly; will quickly suck the happiness out of you.
This game had/has mountains of potential and I hope that the live service model can help keep the game alive long enough to realise this potential.
